Frost tolerant electrodes
The long and medium types electrodes manufactured by us can be made as frost tolerant (WFT) wariant. Mixing given ingredient with the inner solution of the electrodes results a frost tolerant property.
In 2016 we mahufactured frost tolerant long type electrodes what was tested by the geophysicists of ROSGEOFIZIKA (Saint Petersburg) at their field works in Siberia. They proceeded MT measurements using the frost tolerant electrodes at minus 20 C degree. The record shawed relevant MT signals i.e. the electrodes worked properly.
Eventually all types of electrodes can can be manufactured as frost tolerant and in serial manner
Long ceramic slab (WLC) electrodes
In the last few years our attention has been turned to the phenomenon that the matrix (gypsum+PbCl material filled in the body of electrode) of nonpolarizing electrodes loses mass during some time of usage, mostly in case of under water use. The reason for this is: the material degrades (like dissolves) from the free matrix-surface at the bottom of electrode.
After some time the Pb-spiral may get out of the matrix-material so the electrode becomes unusable. The degraded matrix material gets into the environment. This is not desirable, although it is not soluble in water.
To avoid the degradation and to increase the lifetime of the electrodes we have modified its structure by setting a porous ceramic plate (saturated with the same solution than the matrix) at the bottom of the matrix, in full contact with it. This type we have named long ceramic slab (WLC) nonpolarizing electrode.
The electrical conductance has been assured between the electrode and the environment but the ceramic slab arrests the degradation of the matrix since this plate does not degrade. On the other hand the life-time of electrodes is plausible to be longer.The size of electrode: high: 8-10 cm, diameter: 6 cm. The other features (the content of the matrix, the Pb-spiral) have not been changed.
Further improvement: the block of this electrode has been manufactured from a monolithic polipropilen (PM) rod trough turning, and the holder of the ceramic plate (made of the same materiel as the block) join the block of electrode by screw-thread and sealed by O-ring.The cable outlet-body join the block also by screw-tread and sealed by O-rings.
In 2010 we again improved the cable outlet and all sealings. So this electrodes are usable in the environment with pressure 10 at (for example in wells in depth about 100 m).
The improved variant of the small electrode (WSC) also has a ceramic plate at the bottom. The holder of the plate joined by screw-thread to the body of electrode. It provides the change of the plate if it would be necessary.
One use this type of electrode in wells (as vertical string), on land not passable with vehicle and at some laboratory measurements.
